SYTYCD: Winner Chosen!

It’s the finale!! To the show!

The top 20 returned :) I loved having all of them back. As is tradition, they double up the judges panel and ask them to each pick a favorite to have performed again. This year the top four also picked a favorite dance. They showcased some favorite moments from the audition tour and they had some new routines to the show as well.

Although I loved the show and I got to see a lot of my favorite routines again, I wish they had showcased a bigger variety of performances. I get that a lot of the stronger routines happen towards the end of the season, but the top 4 were already guaranteed a lot of performance time and I think it would have been nice to see more from people who are no longer competing. The votes have been cast and I feel like the final show should be a celebration of dance and all the competitors. Okay, off my soapbox and onto the stuff we actually got to see :)

The show opened with a spectacular group number with the top 20. It seemed to be a sort of “fighting the elements” routine with the fans blowing at them while they were dancing. I thought it was a cool effect although I might not have liked it so much if I’d been the one dancing. Anyway I totally want one of those dresses—gorgeous! The music was wonderful and I loved how they ended it!

Judges picks:

Nigel: Titanic routine with Matthew & Audrey (from week #1)
I loved this routine the first time I saw it and it was just as wonderful this time. It’s a very strong number and her leap off the couch and into his arms was just beautiful

Lil’ C: Hip-hop routine with Witney & tWitch (from week #6)
His descriptions of the routines are so over the top. But I don’t blame him for picking this one—it was amazing. They were fantastic again!

Debbie: Tiffany & George’s contemporary routine from week #1
I was never a huge fan of eithers of these dancers so this routine didn’t stick out in my mind—I actually had to look up when it was in the competition. It was a beautiful routine although not a fav for me.

Adam: Lindsay & Cole’s Paso Doble from week #1
I’m not surprised they picked this one. It WAS a fantastic routine. I adored these dancers early on and I was sad to see them go so fast. They killed it again.

Tyce: Amelia & Will’s “love cat’s” routine (from week #1)
SO GLAD this routine was selected! It was one of my fav’s. They did a fantastic job again!

Mary: Chehon & Katherine holocaust routine from week #7
This routine was from the week my dvr didn’t record but I did watch it on my computer and wow was it impressive. They did a phenomenal job again. It was such a heart wrenching and beautiful performance.

Kat: disco routine with Tiffany & Brandon (from week #5)
This wasn’t a fav routine for me, but they performed it well and they had fun with it but I could have done with out it.

Audition Tour Highlights

#5—Leroy, the last competitor in the audition, he was a very inspiring person who is working to make a difference in kid’s lives and that is awesome!

#4—Bree, the mom from Dallas. This was a very sweet moment during auditions. I love that her son got to give her the vegas ticket.

#3—”The Ninja Twins” They were such a fun pair and had such beautiful personalities. Their performance was so fun.

#2 AT&T cut my recording again >:-( but I got to see a bit of the “exorcist” routine. He was a bit odd, but there was something very special that happened when he danced.

#1—They asked Dragon House to perform live! It was such an awesome routine!! I’m so glad they got to be there. It was amazing.

Top 4 pick’s

Eliana chose to dance with Alex again doing the “bang bang” routine which was an AMAZING routine. I’m sol glad they danced it again!

Chehon chose to dance with Anya. This was a beautiful routine (and was the one he performed the night his mother was there.) It had a wonderful emotional connection and I love that he went outside of his style—I think it really emphasized how much he has grown as a dancer.

Tiffany chose her routine with Ade. What a great choice! This was one of the routines that made me start to support her. She was beautiful again!

Cyrus picked to dance with tWitch—no surprises there! He killed it again. I know a lot of people complained about his lack of technique or whined that he never got ballroom. Let’s be honest, every routine was an incredible challenge for him and out of his comfort zone. Don’t think it was easy for him at all. Unlike every other dancer in the competition, he had no training to support him or to fall back on. Despite all of that, we went out there and danced with incredible love and passion. I don’t care that he wasn’t the most talented or technical dancer. Technique does not always make a dancer—but heart does and Cyrus has heart.

New Routines
They finished out the show with hip-hop routine staring tWitch, Comfort, Cryus and Scott. This was such a fun and quirky routine. It was also really good—I loved seeing that match-up of talent. Love!

AND THEN the top 10 + all-stars performed a routine to the soundtrack from LION KING, MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE EVER (literally I can quote the entire thing). This is my new favorite performance OF THE SEASON. Amazing!! I loved how they ended the routine with the final four on the top of the rock.

Results
It was really sweet to see the videos that recapped their journeys. I really enjoyed reliving all the moments with them again.

finally, congratulations to…
